💫 Guiding Light
Inspired by mid century design, this arch features a golden sun on a burnt orange abstract background. I was going to paint an animal on this one too, but once I saw how much emotion was conveyed by the background, I knew she was “done”. She also features an embedded Marching Girl enamel pin in the shape of a star. This piece symbolises how, even when we walk ahead on our own, we are never really alone, and we will find our way to where we are meant to be ✨
I had no idea what a marching girl was, but apparently it was once of the first “sports” that women were *allowed* to participate in after WWII. It involved literally wearing cute outfits and marching around in formations, which is a kind of sport I could get behind. Apparently it was a “national obsession” at the time so I love the thought of giving a new life to these once-adored pins.
She is lovingly hand-painted and handmade by me in my Meanjin studio.
