Milk Bar II đŸ¥› Original Painting
Medium: Oil and acrylic paint, plaster, gold foil on wooden painting board
Size: 41 x 30.5cm
Statement: Milk Bar II is a nostalgic reflection on childhood, memory, and the passage of time, and is part of Sharlie’s ‘anemoia’ collection (nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known). In this series she explored women, place and home, questioning whether we are an integral part of the fabric of our suburb or place, or will it continue to exist in the same way without us? Or, is it all just a part of a nostalgia that only exists within us and our memories? A young girl is depicted, seemingly searching for something beyond her, as we all often search for a home and a time that is unreachable. The textured surface and distressed lettering hint at time’s erosion, symbolising the fading yet deeply cherished memories of youth. The use of gold leaf adds a sense of value to these recollections, reminding us that even the most ordinary moments can hold profound significance. With Milk Bar II, the viewer is invited to reconnect with their own past—to taste the sweetness of nostalgia and to remember the small, mundane details that shape our lives.
